Man cannot live by Pot Noodle alone, so get these easy recipes into your kids' repertoire

In terms of food, university days are a bit of a low point in life: tinned chilli con carne, endless mugs of powdering soup and cornflakes for dinner. Ring any bells?


It doesn't have to be so sad, though.


In an attempt to rescue every student from another depressing dinner, we’ve put together a list of recipes to suit the smallest of budgets. And you don't have to be a MasterChef contestant either. Share these with the students in your life and let us know how you get on...


1. Tuna pasta bake

Nearly entirely made from store cupboard ingredients – comfort food doesn't get more convenient than this.


2. Macaroni cheese with spinach, tomatoes and spring onions

Pasta and cheese. We could get a PhD in that.

3. Microwave quiche in a cup​

Mix your ingredients up, pour in a cup and ping: dinner’s ready.


4. Lamb meatball pitta pockets

Stuff these till they're fit to burst and drizzle with ready-made tzatziki.


5. Chicken chow mein

Rock the wok with this quick and easy recipe.

6. Corn and haddock chowder

Cheat the chowder with ready-made mash and you'll be slurping this up 15 minutes later.

This one's ready in 40 minutes – less time than it takes for the takeaway to arrive.
