These are simply genius ways to make your cooking life that little bit easier
Eating is great, but when you’re pushed for time, cooking can be a right pain in the backside.
Thankfully, there are some corners to be cut that will have you munching before you can say “ready, steady, cook."
Weekday dinner: pasta pronto
Pre-soaking pasta might sound strange (or like a crime against food) but it will mean you can cook that spaghetti in under a minute. Simply soak the dried pasta in cold water for about an hour and a half, drain and place in boiling water for 60 seconds. Voila.
Weekday side dish: don’t peel potatoes
Don’t bother peeling those potatoes before boiling them, the skin will just slide off once cooked. Hey presto.
Weekend lunch: cunning caramelised onions
Turn those onions wonderfully brown and sweet in half the time by adding a little baking soda into the mix.
Speedy salad: chop chop
Hold those cherry tomatoes between two plastic lids to slice them all at once. Oh yes.
Sunday lunch: save our sauce
If your casserole or sauce is looking a little on the greasy side, drop an ice cube into it – the fat will start to congeal in the cooler space and you can scoop it out. No fuss.
Weekend baking: eggcellent idea
Wet your fingers before removing eggs shells – you’ll be surprised how quick and easy it is to pull those nasty shell pieces out now.
Packed lunch: iceberg ahead
Instantly core a head of iceberg lettuce by slamming it down on a chopping board. Sarnie, anyone?
Weekend brunch: the fast fry-up
The weekend calls for one thing: a fry-up. For when you don’t have the time (or inclination) to whip up the full monty, these bacon and egg cups will do the job nicely. Try the recipe here.
