When it comes to food, blood orange is the new black

Blood oranges, with their sweet, raspberry-like flavour underpinned with a zesty citrus zing, are the fruit of the moment. Not only do they look incredible, they also give all kinds of wondrous taste sensations to sweet and savoury dishes.

Originating from Spain and Sicily, blood oranges produce a deep ruby-red juice. While their taste isn't worlds apart from their less fancy orange sister, blood oranges have a distinct flavour that makes a rich addition to salads, cocktails, desserts and much more. They're in season from December through to May, so get your fix while you can.

We've rounded up some our favourite blood orange recipes, from starters and main courses to desserts. Splendid.
