Because Dad keeps you laughing with his bad jokes all year round, here are some fun foodie pranks sure to crack him up
All is not what it seems... read on to find out about this eggstraordinary trick
1. Make Dad a fake fry up
If you're planning on making Dad breakfast in bed, have some fun in the kitchen by swapping his eggs for this 'yummy' alternative. It's actually a spoonful of yogurt and a slice of canned apricot (so check Dad doesn't have any dairy allergies first). In fact, you could go one further with a totally inedible but hugely impressive felt fry up. Ketchup, anyone?
There's nothing like a cool, refreshing glass of... jelly? Play the ultimate trick on Dad by making him an apple juice jelly and serving it in a pint glass. Complete with an apple foam head, Dad probably won't know the difference until he tries to take a sip.
For this seriously strange pre-sliced banana trick, use a pin to poke tiny holes into the skin and slice the chunks from the inside. Watch this video for full instructions – and if any little ones are making it, ensure you help them while they're using the pin.
This might look like Dad's favourite dessert, but it's really mashed potato with a drizzle of gravy. Serve these after Sunday lunch using an ice cream scoop to make the mash look just like ice-cream, and watch Dad dig in...
5. Give him some bread 'slippers'
Father's Day is all about your dad relaxing and having a day off, so offer him a pair of bread slippers to really kick back (or simply eat). All you need to do is cut a line widthways across each loaf to make the front part of the slipper, leaving about 1-2cm at the bottom. Use a sharp knife – ensure you do this part for any little ones. Cut in a straight line to the back of each loaf to form space for a 'foot', then use your hands to hollow out the space a bit more, creating a ridge at the back.
