Heat the oil in a large pan and fry the onion and bacon for 3-4 minutes until crisp. Add the rest of the ingredients apart from the bread. Simmer over a medium heat for 15 minutes until the sauce has reduced and season with black pepper.
When the beans are almost cooked, grill the bread on a griddle pan. Serve the beans over the toast.
